Locomotive "Rex Longshawe" is a Santa Fe Outline in 5in gauge. In May 2010, a call was received from a lady who had been bereaved for some years. Her late husband had built the locomotive but had never run it, and subsequently it had sat under a fish-tank in her living room together with a bag of 'electrical bits' in a cupboard. The lady contacted COSME as a last resort as she was wanting to clear space in the house, and didn't know what to do with the loco - a kindly neighbour had offered to buy it for £50 to use as a flower pot holder in his front garden rockery - and she thought that it must be of better use somewhere else.

Luckily for the Society, the lady remembered that her husband had been a member many years earlier and that it might have been of interest to someone there who wanted a 'project'. The Club Secretary arranged to visit her later that day as it was a local call, and on arrival the lady, Mrs Longshawe, said that could we take the loco immediately as the "Green-Fingered" neighbour was looking to pick up the loco when he got home that night. With no further delay, the seats were folded down in the car and the loco secured for the journey to the club.

Apart from the electrics being in pieces, no batteries and a little dust, the loco was in much the condition that it is seen today with the livery unchanged.

The loco electrics were overhauled by a society member, Mick Barlow, with advice and guidance from other members as necessary, and the loco was returned to full working order within 4 months. We also found out that other club members recalled working on the original chassis welding, but had never seen the loco finished until now.

An inaugural running date was held on Sunday, 27th March 2011, when the loco was officially named "Rex Longshawe" and the new nameplates unveiled by Mrs Longshawe and 20 members of her family and friends.

The loco continues in full operation today and we are pleased to remember a past member whose family have kindly donated this to the Society.
